The renewed Franz Liszt Academy of Music was opened on the 22nd of October with a festive concert. The building of the academy was reconstructed by more than 1000 people. The project cost HUF 13.2 billion, of which HUF 11.829 billion was covered by EU resources. When reconstructing the building the monument regulations were strictly kept. The building was renewed and modernized in its whole, and a memorial made in honor of conductor György Solti standing next to the main entrance was inaugurated as well.
The Monument Regulations Were Strictly Kept
In the Small Hall named after Solti an orchestra pit, dressing rooms, a rigging loft and a lighting system; and in the basement dressing rooms, a musical instrument storage and guest restrooms were constructed. In the patio of the building a café was opened, replacing the buffet on the ground floor. For making the auditorium more comfortable the distance between the seat lines was increased, and the seats were reupholstered. Strictly keeping the monument regulations the more then 100 revivalists renewed the sculptures, the lead glass windows, the walls, the mosaics, the Zsolnay ceramics, the murals and the chandeliers. The festive concert proved that after the renewal the acoustic of the rooms is still perfect.
Almost 100 Foreign Students Study Here
Besides the classical concerts the Academy of Music is known of its world-famous education system. 88 foreign students study here; 35 of them is Japanese; the number of foreign students is the highest here after the Semmelweis University. According to the opinion of the students the Hungarian academy has several advantages over their country’s academy of music. A Chinese student was told about the academy by her singing master; the Hungarian academy has a fair name in China. A formal Spanish piano student found the teaching style of the Hungarian teachers very exciting. And a Danish violin student applied here, because she was very curious of Eastern Europe, and when taking a master course here in Hungary she fell in love with the Hungarian culture.
