The next chapter of the program series called “Will Be Back Soon” is about to start. Within the confines of the project the city leaders would like to solve the problem of the empty shop spaces and lure new customers to the city centre. The program involves 8 districts of Budapest, the 1st, the 2nd, the 4th, the 6th, the 7th, the 8th, the 9th and the 18th. From the end of communism in 1989 till today a great number of shopping centers were built, the customers started to prefer them, and because of this a lot of shop spaces in the city centre got empty. The aim of the program is to stop and reverse this process.
The City Centre Can Be a Commercial Centre Again
The results of the project so far show that the city centre can turn into a commercial centre and the street into a community space again. The program has a website, on which anyone can search for or offer empty shop spaces. The shops get a unitary design until they get to be used again: the posters covering the windows introduce a successful Hungarian company implying renting the space young entrepreneurs can reach the same success.
The Aim is to Inspire the Start-Up Companies
The self-government of the capital started the program series in spring of 2012. In the confines of the project they have introduced successful Hungarian companies to inspire start-ups and prove them they can reach the same success by great ideas and hard work. As a part of the program a project gallery was opened in Kossuth Lajos utca, which operates as a public expert forum. The entrepreneurs can get some help here for the usage of the empty shop spaces, and can get to know innovative solutions that have already proved to be successful in other countries.
