On Lánchíd utca located in front of the Várbazár (Castle Garden Bazaar), between Clark Ádám tér and Ybl Miklós tér about 20 thousand square meter of pavement will be removed, and 13 thousand square meter of basalt fitting laid. A new tram stop and a 2230-square-meter bike line will also be constructed. The second part of the reconstruction starts on the 1st March, and can be finished by the end of the year. The self-government initiated an open public procurement procedure to find the building contractor for the reconstructions. Those companies can apply until the 20th February that have an at least HUF 750 million average annual net income.
The Castle Garden Bazaar
Lánchíd utca located in the 1st district runs in front of the Várkert Bazár or Várbazár (Castle Garden Bazaar), that was constructed according the plans of architect Miklós Ybl. The bazaar is a World Heritage Site. The monument was built in Neo-Renaissance style between 1875 and 1883. Under the arcades used to be shops, a vocational training centre for women, a historical portrait exhibition and a painting school for women. Several artists such as sculptor Alajos Stróbl had their workshops here. The monument was damaged in World War II. In the 1960-80s the Youth Park of Buda operated here, several concerts were held in the building. From the 1980s the building started to decay. Its reconstruction started in 2011, and is about to be ready by this March.
