Back

Several supporting walls of the Buda Castle will be renovated by November. The construction started in June. The 3 walls which are to be redone were renovated 50 years ago for the last time; but according to the results of a 2010 examination the time has come for a new restoration. The construction work will cost HUF 750 million.

The reconstruction of the Eastern supporting walls of the Buda Castle started in the end of June is expected to be done by November. The 3 walls (No. 5, No. 7 and No. 11) were renovated in the 1960s for the last time, since then only smaller repairs have been done. The restoration will be done as a part of the monument reconstruction program of the Magyar Nemzeti Vagyonkezelő Zrt. (Hungarian National Asset Management Inc.). During the last two years 80 monuments were renovated in the value of HUF 2 billion total. In 2013 HUF 3.2 billion is available for the reconstructions.

The MNV made a suggestion of renovating the supporting walls based on the results of their 2010 examination. Both technical and aesthetic renovation will be done. Four walls and their surroundings needed to be renovated: the Halászó Fiú (Fisher Boy) Terrace Supporting Wall, the Eastern Wall, the North Eastern Small Tower, the Middle Garden Supporting Wall and the South Cortina Wall and Water Bearer Stairs. The South Cortina Wall was already renovated and given back in use in 2012, so in 2013 the remaining 3 walls will be redone. Mostly walling work, framework and surface renovation are needed. The reconstruction work will cost HUF 750 million.

The public procurement procedure started by the MNV in 2013 was successfully finished, the building contractors were chosen, and the contracts were signed with the Confector Ltd., the EB Hungary Invest Ltd. and the Nemes és Társa Ltd. The reconstruction work will be done in order of dangerousness of the walls, will be finished by November, and it will jeopardize neither the Buda Castle Wine Festival, nor the Feast of Crafts; the visitors safety and entertainment won’t be bothered.
