Reconstruction of Dunakorzó Is to Begin in September

Back

Besides the reconstruction of Kossuth tér and Ferenciek tere another renovation project takes place in the city centre. Dunakorzó and Váci utca are the next ones to be redone. The constructions begin this fall and expected to be finished by next March. The project costs HUF 4 billion.

This fall another reconstructions begin in Budapest: after Kossuth tér and Ferenciek tere Dunakorzó (on the bank of river Danube), Váci utca and its bystreets, Molnár utca, the Olimpics Park, Balassi utca, Falk Miksa utca and the streets north from Kossuth tér are to be renovated. The latter reconstruction is expected to begin in August. The cost of the developments is HUF 4 billion, of which 2 billion will be provided by the European Union, 1 billion by the Hungarian state and 1 billion by the district's self-government.

New Coating, Lamps and Statues

The coating and the street lamps on Dunakorzó will be replaced. In the Olympics Park a modern, stylish green area will replace the current neglected land: a sport field, a playground and an area for dog-walkers will be built. Almost all of the ancient trees will be kept, and new ones will also be planted. Váci utca, between Vörösmarty tér and Szabad sajtó út and Párizsi utca get a new coating as well. At Falk Miksa utca a small square will be built, where a statue is to be erected: Peter Falk a.k.a. Detective Columbo and his dog will be standing here. Bihari János utca and Nagy Ignác utca get a new coating, too. Garibaldi utca, Széchenyi utca, the surroundings of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Haris köz and a part of Arany János utca will be reconstructed as well.

Further Plans

The 5th district's self-government finds it important that the reconstructions don't make traffic impossible in the city centre. One of the current reconstructions, the one which is going on at Ferenciek tere is expected to be finished before it was planned. The self-government has further plans as well: they'd like to renovate Szervita tér - the costs are hopefully to be covered by the metropolitan self-government -, Városház utca and Semmelweis utca; and at the foot of Margaret Bridge a park for dog owners is to be built.
