New Developments at the Banks of the River Danube

Back

An international conference was held in Budapest with the theme of the development of the banks of the river Danube. The aim is to use the areas at the banks of the river, for which several developments are necessary. A lot of projects were realized in the past 3 years, and further ones are planned.

An international conference was organized in Budapest by the Hungarian City and Land Developers’ Association in the confines of the Danube Strategy program. The aim of the conference titled Danube Pearls – For the Livable River Banks is to draw attention to the possible methods for the usage of the areas by the banks of the Danube. The closeness of the water provides favorable opportunities for the development of the city, which has not always been exploited by the leaders of the city.

The Aim is to Use the Areas at the River Banks
The aim is to exploit the advantages provided by the Danube and to use the areas by the banks. Since 2010 several projects have been realized at the banks of the Danube, which enhanced the touristic appeal of the city and the comfort of the local residents. The reconstructions of the Margaret Bridge restarted, the Chain Bridge Park got ready, the Bálna (Whale) was opened, and the fountain in Margaret Island was renewed. Currently multiple projects are in process as well, and some others are planned in the future, too. The building of the Main Square of the Nation is in process in confines of the Steindl Imre Program: the visitors’ centre on Kossuth tér is to be ready by March 2014.

Several New Projects Are to Be Realized
The Danube Pearl project is in process, too: this is an international project, which’s details will be specialized according to the methods proved to be successful in other countries. The Danube Promenade is to be renewed; the constructions will cost HUF 798 million: Home Secretary Sándor Pintér is to make a supply agreement with the self-government of the 5th district on the 15th February. A new pavement was placed on the promenade, and other projects are planned by the banks: e. g. at the foot of the Margaret Bridge a thematic dog park is to be built.
