Low Cost Airlines Increasing Flights and Routes to Budapest

Back

Following the closure of Hungary’s national airline Malev a raft of low fares airlines lead by Ryanair and Whizz Air have increased the numbers of routes and flights to and from Budapest.

Of course it’s sad to see Malev close but on the upside the increased competition will more than likely mean more affordable flights to Budapest for travelers. Ryanair has stated it will add 31 new routes and the airlines Wizz Air, SmartWings, Air Berlin and Jet2.com have all announced increased activity as have some of the larger carriers.

So what about the pristine new terminal sky court? Terminal 2 in Franz Liszt airport recently underwent a significant face lift and just last year inaugurated its stunning new sky court concourse. Terminal 2 was generally only used by larger, legacy carriers and of course Malev, with the no fills airlines using only the old Terminal 1. However now since Malev will no longer fly the low cost carriers will now also begin using Terminal 2, and Terminal 1 will gradually close.
