A new IKEA store is to be opened in Hungary. The Swedish furniture store chain opens its new store in Budapest, in the 23rd district. And according to the plans, from 2016 online shopping also will be available, with home delivery.The newest Hungarian IKEA store opens in the 23rd district of Budapest. This will be the 3rd store after the one in the 14th district and the one in Budaörs. The Swedish furniture company told the press on the 8th February that they are planning to build their 3rd Hungarian store in Soroksár. Making the plans for the new store of the world’s biggest furniture store chain is in process. Since the new store will also be in the capital, IKEA wants to please the customers of the country with a new webshop. Online shopping is to be available by 2016, with home delivery. Currently this is available only in a few countries. The income of IKEA increased by 2.49 percent last year compared to 2012, and the number of its customers also increased by 1 percent. According to IKEA’s Regional CEO Marek Feltl they are planning to reach more customers in order to increase their current 21.9-percent market share to 25 percent in the next 5 years. In order to reach this the furniture store chain lowers its prices by 1 percent this year.
History of IKEA in Hungary
The Dutch-based IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943 in Sweden. The store chain, which mostly sells ready-to-assemble furniture already had 353 stores and 154 thousand employees in 48 countries in 2012, and its annual turnover was EUR 27.5 billion (HUF 8.5 thousand billion). Currently their 5 biggest stores are in Sweden, China and Germany: the biggest one is a more than 55-thousand-square-meter store. The first Hungarian IKEA store was opened in 1990 on Örs vezér tere, in the 14th district. The more than 18-thousand-square-meter store has 352 employees. The second Hungarian IKEA was opened in 1999 in Budaörs, next to the M7 motorway. The more than 19-thousand-square-meter store has 283 employees.
