Reconstructions on Ferenciek tere started last fall, but other constructions are also in process in the 5th district. The Olimpia Park, Váci utca, Duna-korzó and Falk Miksa utca will also be renewed, the latter gets a new pavement, and a statue of Peter Falk a.k.a. Columbo will be erected there in next March.
The renewal of the 5th district streets and squares was started in October 2013. The pavements of the Duna-korzó will be changed and new street lamps erected; this will cost HUF 660 million. Váci utca and several bystreets get a new pavement. The Olimpia Park will be reconstructed into a dynamic, young, green area. The 10-thousand-square-meter area will be surrounded with a fence and closed for the night. A playground, a dog walking area and sport fields will be built here. The construction will cost HUF 582 million.
Falk Miksa utca Is to Be Renewed
Falk Miksa utca will be renewed, too, which costs HUF 700 million. The whole pavement will be changed, and new trees planted. The number of the parking spots will be reduced and new benches placed here, so it will be more pleasant for the locals and the tourists to take walks on the street. According to the plans a statue of Peter Falk a.k.a. Columbo will be erected here, who was allegedly related to Miksa Falk, the eponym of the street. The statue will depict the detective with his faithful mate, his basset hound. The actor’s relations to the Hungarian politician and writer have never been proven.
There’re Several Antique Shops and Galleries on the Street
Several antique shops and galleries are on the street, like the Európa Gallery, the Goldbach Gallery and Trade House or the Haas Gallery and Exhibition Hall. The annual Falk Art Forum, the antique and modern art festival is held here, where the guests can get a deeper knowledge of art, and visit the nearby galleries.
