The building, which's beauty is often doubted by the locals, got the attention of the editors of the tourism section, and they suggest everyone visit it when travelling to Hungary.

The news portal of US TV channel CNN named the 8 Budapest sights that are must-sees for tourists who visit the Hungarian capital. On the list made by the editors of the tourism section of the news site the National Theater also can be found besides the Buda Castle, the Opera House, the Parliament, the Chain Bridge, the Fisherman's Bastion, the St. Stephen's Basilica and the Dohány Street Synagogue, despite the locals usually don't find it that impressive. CNN mostly appreciates the modern lines and the spectacular glass surfaces of the building. The news portal of the TV channel has written about Hungary recently several times; it's introduced the ruin bars of Budapest and the traditional Hungarian dishes.

The New National Theater

The new National Theater was inaugurated in 2002, after the former one located at Blaha Lujza tér opened in 1837 has been closed for a long time. The new building was planned to be erected at the present Ötvenhatosok tere located at the edge of Városliget (City Park), and after at Erzsébet tér; but in 1999 a new site was selected for the construction. The theater was finally built in almost a year at the Pest bank of the river Danube, in Bajor Gizi Park in the 9th district. The plans of the building were made by Hungarian architect Mária Siklós. The looks of the building remind the visitor of a large ship floating on the river. The more than 20-thousand-square-meter building has 3 auditoriums: the main one has 619, the Gobbi Hilda Stage has 200, and the Kaszás Attila Room has 100 seats. In the garden of the theater a statue park was built, where life-size brass statues of legendary Hungarian actors were erected.
