Bus Network Changes When Metro Line 4 Opens

Connected to the opening of the Metro Line 4 in March, one of the biggest surface traffic rearrangements will be made by BKK Centre for Budapest Transport in 10 of the districts of Budapest. Since the new metro line will provide a fast and comfortable way to get to the centre of the city, some of the bus lines need to be rearranged.
According to the plans the Metro Line 4 will be opened in March, and connected to the opening of the line one of the biggest surface traffic rearrangement of the decade will be made. According to the decision of the BKK Centre for Budapest Transport and the self-government of the capital the bus network of Budapest will be rearranged, since the new metro line will provide a fast and comfortable way to get to the centre of the city from Kelenföld, thus a fewer surface traffic alternatives will be needed. The rearrangement concerns 10 districts, Törökbálint, Budaörs, 40 bus lines (including the busy line of the bus no. 7), 4 tram lines and 3 trolley lines. The lines and the timetables can be modified; some lines will be merged, others shortened or lengthened, and others closed down. The Metro Line 4 will run between Keleti Railway Station and Kelenföld, and the cars run in every 2-3 minutes (rush-hour) or 5 minutes (during the day) on weekdays, 10 minutes on the evenings and 5 minutes on the weekends.
Metro Line 4 Will Be Opened on the 31st March
According to the plans the first passengers can travel by the new line on the 31st March 2014. Journalists already could test the vehicles last summer. The metro line is tested step by step: last September the stations were tested, at the end of the year the vehicles without passengers, in February the escalators and in March the cars (with passengers) will be tested. The tunnel to be inaugurated in spring is 7.5 kilometer long. The idea of the Metro Line 4 came up in 1972; and the decision of the current line was made in 1996. The construction of the stations started in 2006, the line will be built in three parts; the second part of the line connects Keleti Railway Station and Bosnyák tér and the third connects Kelenföld Railway Station and Madárhegy.
