Office Spaces Are Also Popular
Office spaces located at the boulevard are also popular: elegant offices of a favorable price are high in demand, for example those of the Andrássy100 office centre. The owner of the building, the Austrian AITBürotel is planning to renovate the common spaces, and to build versatile offices for smaller companies. Thanks to the increasing interest of the tenants Andrássy út can win its original, 19-20th century role back as one of the capital’s most important areas.
Andrássy út Was Built Almost Half a Decade Ago
The more than 2-kilometre-long boulevard is located in Budapest’s 5th district, connects the city centre and Városliget, and was opened in 1876. The plan of the road was suggested by then Prime Minister Count Gyula Andrássy. The plans of most of the buildings lining the boulevard were made by Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl. The opening of the underground line No. 1 in 1896 further increased the prestige of the boulevard. Andrássy út, which got its current name in 1990, was reconstructed between 1988 and 1996, and it became a World Heritage Site in 2002.
