A New Park Is to Be Built near Nyugati pályaudvar

Back

A huge park is to be built in the 6th district, behind the building of the Nyugati Railway Station. Previously a government quarter was planned to be built on the currently unused area, but the investment was called off. According to the plans the new establishment will be similar to Millenáris (a park in Buda). The investment will cost HUF 300-600 million.
The self-government of the 6th district has come upon a plan for the temporary usage of the currently unused area behind Nyugati pályaudvar (Nyugati Railway Station), which was previously planned to be home for the new government quarter. The huge future park will be similar to Millenáris situated in Buda. The land bordered by Teréz körút and Ferdinánd híd, parallel to Podmaniczky utca is the government’s property. Making plans for the future government quarter the Ferdinánd Bridge built in 1874 and renovated in 1982 was about to be knocked down, but the project was called off in 2008, so the bridge stayed put. The preparation part of the construction cost HUF 12 billion: a part of the area was emptied, the storages and rail tracks knocked down.
The District Could Finally Get a Large Green Area
Building the park the self-government would like to exploit the advantages of the area, since it’s located in the centre, in a busy neighborhood that has no large parks at all except the Városliget (City Park). As the first part of the construction a 15 thousand square-meter green area is to be built; the toilets, dressing rooms, offices and storages will be placed in the buildings next to Podmaniczky utca. As the second part the former engine shed will be reconstructed into an event hall. The investment will cost approximately HUF 300-600 million, and the park can be ready in a short time. After the construction is finished, residents of the busy 6th district will have a lot more opportunities for outdoor sport and entertainment activities in their own neighborhood: they can take a walk or run in the park, and the place will be home for several outdoor events as well.
