Thanks to the investment the iconic boulevard, which is one of the World Heritage Sites, will allure even more tourists to the neighborhood.

According to the plans the new luxury shopping center of Budapest, Il Bacio di Stile („The Kiss of Style”) will be opened on the 9th September on Andrássy út. Thanks to the more than HUF-5-billion investment, the customers visiting Docler Holding’s store can browse amongst the products of the most renowned designers, just as Giorgio Armani, Lanvin, Yves Saint Lauren, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta or Donna Karan. Several developments related to the project took place between 2001 and the current year, and the future design and the list of the brands to be sold have already been posted on Facebook. A restaurant is to be opened at the roof terrace of the building. Thanks to the new investment, Andrássy út will be not just a popular spot for romantic late night walks, but one of the fashion centers of the capital as well.

The Boulevard Is a World Heritage Site

The more than 2-kilometer-long boulevard, where the luxury shopping centre is located, is in the 6th district of Budapest, and connects the city centre with Városliget. Until the 19th century the main road of the district was Király utca, but by the middle of the century the street proved to be not wide enough to take the increased traffic. To solve this problem, then Prime Minister Count Gyula Andrássy came up with the idea of a new boulevard, which was accepted in 1870, and one year later the construction began. The new road was ready soon. The plans of some of the houses lining the street were made by the renowned Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl. The area where now the Opera House is located was then a moor and an ill-famed tavern operated there; which slowed down the construction for a while. The boulevard was finally finished in 1876. It had a wooden cover to protect the hoofs of the horses. At the time of its opening its name was The Boulevard; it got its current name in 1990. The Metro Line 1 running under the boulevard was built in 1896, which made the new road more prestigious. Between 1988 and 1996 the boulevard was reconstructed: new trees were planted, the metro line and the pavement were renovated, and new benches and street lamps were erected. Andrássy út was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 2002.
