A Huge Tropical Entertainment Park is to Be Built in Budapest

Back

A Huge Tropical Entertainment Park is to be built in Budapest, in the place of the Amusement Park, which was finally closed on the 30th September. The future Pannon Park will present animals that used to live in the territory of today's Hungary thousands of years ago. An aquarium, a tale park, an adventure park, a bird hospital and a riding hall are also to be built here.
The Amusement Park of Budapest was finally closed on the 30th September after 175 years of operation. The 6.5-ha area now belongs to Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, which thus became 60 percent larger. The animals’ territory is to be extended: the elephants, the hippopotamuses, the flamingos and the rhinoceroses are moving here, new species arrive at the facility, and a huge tropical entertainment part will also be built there. Some of the rides of the amusement park are national monuments, such as the rollercoaster and the carousel: these will stay put, but the other ones will be sold.
Ancient Wilderness, an Aquarium and a Tale Park
In the place of the amusement park one of Europe’s largest tropical entertainment parks is to be built. The future Pannon Park will present animals that used to live in the territory of today's Hungary thousands of years ago. The Pannon Ősvadon (Pannon Ancient Wilderness) will be home for subtropical species; and a tale park, an aquarium, a bird hospital, an adventure park and a riding hall are also to be built here. The zoo will move in to its new territory in multiple steps: the first part of the moving is to be finished by next spring. According to the plans the whole construction will be finished by 2017. The investment costs HUF 15 billion.
Rides of the Closed Amusement Park Will Be Sold
Today’s Amusements Park of Budapest was opened in 1950. In 1956 it already had 2 million visitors annually, and by its 10th birthday the number of its visitors quadrupled. But by the 2000s it lost its charm: it only had 300 thousand visitors annually, compared to the zoo’s 1 million. The rides of the amusement park will be sold: the first round of the tender was not successful, but they are expected to be sold for the second run.
